At NorthStar, it has been our goal since day one that we would be the first call for help from the community. We have made it a priority to be actively involved in our area. We encourage you to join us in helping to be "Salt and Light" to the communities of Kennesaw and Acworth.

  August Community Dates

8/27 - Kennesaw Mountain v. Allatoona Football Game Concessions - 6pm at Kennesaw Mountain High School - 24 volunteers needed to to man the concession stand for the KMHS v. Allatoona football game. By serving in the concession stand, you will give the football parents the opportunity to watch their kids play while working alongside some great NorthStar people!! Filled.

8/29 - Clothesline - Donation drop off at trailer in NorthStar parking lot from 9-12:30pm- Volunteers needed to donate gently used and outgrown clothing, coats and shoes. All seasons, all sizes, men, women, boy, girls and infants will be collected. Donation trailer will be open from 9am-12:30pm on Sundays only through September 5th.These clothes will be given away free to people in need in our community on September 11th. No need to sign up!! Just drop clothes off at trailer during Sunday services

8/31 - MUST Smyrna Food/Clothing Pantry - 10am - 2pm at the Smyrna MUST location - 3 volunteers needed to answer the phone and to help in the food and clothing area. The Smyrna MUST location assists over 150 people in need per day in getting food, clothing, and other assistance. Filled.

September Community Dates

9/1-9/30 - MUST Food Barrels(***BIG GIVE!!!)- Volunteers needed to provide the following items for the MUST food pantry-beef stew, tuna, oatmeal, salmon(canned), chicken(canned), ham(canned), ramen noodles,beans,  fruit, spaghetti and sauce, peanut butter, and dry potatoes. Donations may be dropped off in MUST barrels located in the lobbies of our Worship Center and the True North building any time during the month of September.  Please consider having a mini food drive at your work, in your neighborhood, or with your small group!!   NOTE From MUST - MUST is at its lowest food level in years and we are asking for your help.  We are completely out of canned chicken, ham, tuna, salmon, or protein of any kind.  Also, we have no flour, instant potatos, jelly, dry milk, oatmeal, grits, canned beans, spaghetti sauce, canned spaghetti meals, tomatos or tomato sauce.  We are running very low on dry beans, rice, boxed diners, mac & cheese, and spaghetti.  The need in the last month is over 200% from last year’s numbers and we are finding it extremely hard to keep up.  Please look inside your heart and kindly consider having an emergency food drive at your church, school or business location.  It may save someone’s life. Please keep our neighbors in need in your prayers and pass along the word via email, facebook, newsletter, newspaper, radio, or tv to your friends, family and neighbors. Click here to volunteer.

9/1-9/30 - 9/1-9/30 - Project P.A.N.T.S. - 4 volunteers needed to help provide 3 outfits, underwear, and shoes for students in need identified by Cobb school counselors/social workers. Volunteers will be put on a list and contacted as the need for help arises. Volunteers will be provided gender and sizes of student and will have 10 days to shop for the clothes needed. Children will range in age from pre-school to high school. Clothes can be dropped off at the church and we will get them to DFACS. Click here to volunteer.

9/1 - Bread for the MUST Evening Pantry - 10 volunteers needed to provide 10 loaves of bread for the Smyrna evening food/clothing pantry. NorthStar mans the Smyrna MUST pantry on the first Wednesday evening of everymonth - the first  and only night time food pantry in Cobb county. This helps people who have low income jobs that need help, but cannot make it during the day because they work. Anyone that comes into the pantry can get bread. Bread that is provided to the shelter runs out during the day, so there will be no bread available for the night time pantry from their regular sources. That is why we bring bread with us!! The bread can be dropped off at the church Mon(Aug 30)-Wed(Sept. 1). Donations of day old bread are welcome. Filled.

9/1 - Evening Food/Clothing Pantry - 6-8pm at the Smyrna MUST location - 12 volunteers needed to man the food and clothing pantry for the Smyrna MUST location. Duties will include greeting, interviewing people in need, filling food orders, computer input, clothing check out, etc. This is the first evening hours pantry that MUST has ever done and it will be fully staffed by NorthStar volunteers. We will do this every first Wednesday of the month. Filled.

9/4 -  Love the Lake Festival Hospitality Booth - 2 to 4pm at the Lake - 4 volunteers needed to man the Love the Lake Hospitality Booth. Volunteers will help visitors with information, directions, etc. Click here to volunteer.

9/6 - Breakfast at MUST - 5:45am- 7:15am at the MUST Shelter - 7 volunteers needed to provide and serve breakfast for 40 shelter guests and volunteers. The MUST Ministries shelter houses 40 men and 20 or more women and children in their Elizabeth Inn Emergency Night Shelter. NorthStar helps by providing a breakfast on the first Monday of each month. It is a great way to not only help serve people in need, but also to meet some of our great NorthStar people!! Filled.

9/6 - Labor Day Cook Out at MUST - 11am-1pm at the MUST shelter - To help celebrate Labor Day, MUST Ministires has asked us to cookout for the people staying in their shelter. 5-6 volunteers needed to help cook and serve lunch to the MUST shelter guests. Hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, and drinks will be provided by NorthStar.  Filled.

9/7- MUST Smyrna Food/Clothing Pantry - 10am - 2pm at the Smyrna MUST location - 3 volunteers needed to answer the phone and to help in the food and clothing area. 9/8- Laundry Night at MUST Ministries  - *NEW HOURS* - 6-11pm at the MUST Shelter in Marietta - 2-3 Volunteers needed to wash clothes for shelter guests.  You do not have to be a laundry expert-just have a heart to serve!! Laundry is not sorted-everything is washed together. No bleach or fabric softener is used.Volunteers must be 18 or older. Click here to volunteer.

9/9 - Clothesline Trailer  Unload- Trucks Needed Too!!! - 8am at the lobby of our Worship Center - 8 volunteers needed to help unload the Clothesline trailer and transport clothes to the front of our Worship Center for sorting. We need pick up trucks too!!  Click here to volunteer.

9/9 - DFACS Visitation Room Clean Up - 5:30-6:45pm at the Cobb DFACS office on Fairground St. in Marietta - Can you sweep, mop, and wipe down walls and toys?? We need your help!! Every week parents who have children in foster care get to visit their kids at the DFACS office. The visitation rooms are used to the max!! With little or no resources to get these rooms deep cleaned, DFACS is reaching out to us for help. 6 volunteers are needed to help clean the visitation rooms(there are 3). Volunteers will need to bring cleaning supplies with them. Children 10 and over are welcome when accompanied by an adult. Click here to volunteer.

10/2 - North Georgia State Fair Can Collection 3 shifts available(4-6pm, 6-8pm, and 8-10pm) at the Jim R. Miller Park – 8 volunteers needed each shift to collect can food for MUST Ministries. Volunteers will collect cans that visitors will be bringing to the fair for free admission.  This is one of MUST’s biggest food drive for the year and helps keep their warehouse supplied with food through the winter months.  Volunteers will receive free admission to the fair before/after their shift. 10/10 - Pamper a Child Diaper Drive (***BIG GIVE!!!) - Volunteers are needed to Pamper a child and give him/her some Huggies!! Our Big Give for the month of October is a diaper drive. Diapers in all sizes are needed and diaper wipes are welcome too!! We will be giving the diapers to our partners in the communtiy - MUST Ministries for low income or homeless families, DFACS for foster familes, and My Sister's House for their homeless shelter that helps put women back to work.  Please feel free to invite your family, friends, co-workers, small group to help!! Click here to volunteer.
