Our passion here at NorthStar Dallas is to reach our community. Jesus came not to rule but to serve, and that’s our heart for New Hope. It has been our goal since day one that we would be the first call for help from the community. We have made it a priority to be actively involved in our area. We encourage you to join us in helping to be "Salt and Light" to the communities of Dallas and New Hope.

Below are some of the great ways we get involved in serving others. We hope you will find one or more things to help with! To find out more about our community ministry, please contact Crystal at

UPDATE 08/30/11

Hey guys,
I just wanted to send out one last e-mail and let you know that this Sunday will be my last day at NSD and that I have officially turned over the Community Outreach reigns to Brad until they find my replacement.  So anything concerning Community please forward to Brad and he will be able to help you! Thank you all again for all of your help, love and support! I am really going to miss you!

Love you,
Crystal

UPDATE 08/27/11

Hey guys

Each year MUST partners up with the North Georgia State Fair for a food drive. For one night if you bring 5 non perishable food items for MUST you are allowed into the fair with no admission fee. MUST has asked if we could help provide volunteers for that night to cover a couple of the shifts. I know this is not specifically a Paulding County event but a lot of us do go to the fair each year and I thought it would be a great way for NSD to serve and also for you to get into the fair free if you were planning on going anyway. Yes I forgot to mention if you volunteer that night you do get FREE ADMISSION into the fair. Children are welcome to help as long as they are old enough to help and stay with you at the gate while collecting food. We will need 12 volunteers for each shift on Friday Sept 30th. The first shift is 5:00-8:00 and the second shift is 8:00 11:00. If you would be interested in helping out with this please let me know. I have done this for the last 3 years and it is a lot of fun and a great way for the whole family to serve together.

Serving for Him,
Crystal

UPDATE 08/23/11

Hey guys,
I hope you are all having a great week and enjoying this cooler weather!

I want to start out by letting you know that we met our goal of 100 backpacks!!! GREAT JOB NSD!!!!! Thank you to everyone who donated the money to purchase the backpacks, brought in school supplies, and helped fill them!!! The backpacks were distributed by Helping Hands and each one went to students who were handpicked by the school counselors in the area who saw that after 2 weeks of school these students were still not able to afford a back pack and school supplies. I want to pass along the e-mail Andrea (the director of HH) sent me for you!

Thank you and North Star Church for all you have done with helping get Paulding children ready for back to school.

How awesome you are. God is good.

    In grateful appreciation,
    Andrea

I really have no idea how to even start this part of the e-mail so I am just going to say what is on my heart. As some of you already know my husband has been offered a job in West Virginia. And at first we fought the idea of moving no matter how much God kept telling us this is what we need to do. So as we all know no matter how much you argue with God in the end He always wins, which is exactly what happened in our case. With that being said I wanted to let you know that we have decided to stop fighting it and take the opportunity and therefore starting next month I will no longer be over NSD’s community outreach. I just want to take this time to let each of you know how much of an honor it has been to work with each of you and how proud I am to have been part of a church who cares so much for their community and the people in it! I know that God has someone in mind who will take over and continue to build our community outreach even bigger than I could ever imagine!! I have loved this job so much and I am going to miss it more than you know. On a more personal level I am going to miss you, my NSD family! My family and I have made some amazing friends at NorthStar. And no matter where we live or what church we attend NSD will always be our home, and you will always be our family! Thank you for everything and I love all of you !!! I know, I know, enough of the mushy stuff! Time to dry my eyes and get back to work! So keep reading.

HABITAT FOR HUMMANITY HOUSE DEDICATION 8/28 THIS SUNDAY
The dedication was pushed back to this weekend on Sunday at 2:00. Even if you were not able to come out and help build we would still love for you to come out and celebrate the new home owners and bless their new house and new beginning! The ceremony starts at 2:00 pm but we will need to get there a little earlier to figure out parking. I will be representing NSD by reading the litany during the ceremony. From what I have heard this is a beautiful and moving day where the home owners get the keys to their brand new house and we all get the chance to see exactly what our hard work produced. If you would like to go let me know so that we can figure out the car pooling situation.

BIG GIVE!!! MUST WEAR WEST CLOTHING DONATIONS 8/21- 9/4
We will be collecting clothes, shoes, purses, belts, hats, etc. for the 1st annual MUST wear west each Sunday from Aug 21st until Sept 4th. There will be a table right outside the auditorium to drop everything off. So start cleaning out your closets, your kids closets, your families closets, even go to your neighbor and offer to clean out their closets . We need everything from new born to adult and every size in between! I know there have been a lot of questions about our clothes closet program. This has been one of those projects that has had to be figured out from scratch so there is a learning curve and a lot to be worked out. I can tell you that even though it is going to be under the MUST name all donations will still go to Helping Hands clients and others in need in the Paulding area. We decided to use the MUST name because they were gracious enough to offer us the use of their registration program which will make it possible to reach out to more people. Also the MUST name is very recognizable and we will be able to get more volunteers and more people involved if they are familiar with the organization. We are still working on a volunteer schedule which should be finished very soon. I will let you know ASAP when we can start signing up volunteers to help with the sorting of the clothes and registration.

HELPING HANDS FUNDRAISER @ PAULDING MEADOWS 9/10-11
Helping hands is doing a fundraiser booth to help raise money to start more programs and ultimately be able to meet more needs of their clients. The schedule below shows where they are still in need of volunteers. You would be working in a booth selling baked goods and drinks. If you can help out in any of these time slots please let me know as soon as possible so that I can pass the information along to Helping Hands.

Booth Volunteers:
Saturday – 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm – at least 2 more people
Sunday – 9:00 am – 12:00 noon – at least 2 more people
Sunday – 12:00 noon – 3:00 pm – at least 1 more person
Sunday – 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm – at least 3 more people
